ELECTRONIC HUBS IN MODERN CARS
Appealing and convenient: today's automobiles include a variety of electrical technologies that make our lives simpler. Most features may be controlled by voice or touch, and you can choose what music to listen to or where to travel. And, let's face it, who doesn't like these features and services?
Yet, as useful as these capabilities are, they need a significant amount of computer power. So, where is this coming from?
Until date, a variety of electronic control units have been required in automobiles to power various tasks such as the airbag, air conditioning system, or mobile network connection. A single vehicle may include up to 100 or more control units. Furthermore, current mid-range automobiles have almost two kilometers of electrical wire that feeds electricity to the different systems and allows them to interact with one another. Isn't it bizarre?
THE FUTURE CAR REQUIRES EVEN MORE
The greater demand of modern automobiles will be too much for the electronics of existing models to manage as cars advance and electromobility and autonomous driving become more popular. Automated driving, in particular, will create massive amounts of data, and complexity will skyrocket as cars become more networked.
THE BRILLIANT SUPER BRAIN
The new VW ID.3 prototype is designed to meet these specifications and is constructed on a completely new architecture. The vehicle is outfitted with two high-performance computers. Continental is developing one of these, the so-called "electronic brain" of the ID.3. Its duty, similar to a human brain, is to control the different operations and data flows in the automobile. The computer promises data transfer speeds several times quicker than traditional wire thanks to a circuit board around the size of an A4 sheet of paper.
WHAT DOES A HIGH-PERFORMANCE COMPUTER MEAN FOR A DRIVER?
Simply said, practically unlimited versatility. In the automobile, you may quickly install the applications and services of your choosing, just as you would on a smartphone. Security flaws may be remotely patched, and it will soon be able to install additional driving features without having to take the car to the workshop - everything will be done wirelessly over the mobile communications network or WiFi.
For you, this means that the vehicle remains current even after years of ownership. High-performance computers help eliminate the need for costly product recalls due to software problems.
TIRES CUSTOM-MADE FOR THE ALL-ELECTRIC ID.3
In addition to these technical advances on board, there are unique criteria for the ID.3's tyres and their engagement with the road. We are also pleased to announce that the ID.3 will be equipped with our all-electric tyres. They offer:
- Reduced rolling resistance, which saves energy and contributes to the longest feasible range between charges
- For passenger comfort, reduced tire/road noise is preferred.
- Aerodynamic sidewalls to assist reduce the vehicle's aerodynamic drag.
- ContiSeal technology from Continental allows for mobility even in the event of a puncture.
REMAINING MOBILE EVEN IN THE EVENT OF A PUNCTURE: THE ID.3'S TIRES ARE EQUIPPED WITH CONTISEAL TECHNOLOGY.
- ContiSeal mitigates the impacts of tyre tread degradation by sealing punctures up to 5 mm in diameter (caused, for example, by a nail) promptly owing to a proprietary technology.
- Continuous mobility and distance - no need for an emergency stop or roadside tyre replacement
- In typical conditions, the tire's unrestricted driving performance is comparable to that of a tyre without ContiSeal technology.
EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE MEETS PERMANENT MOBILITY
Our ID.3 tyres are particularly adapted to the vehicle's individual qualities and are clearly identified by the VW logo on the side wall. This symbol indicates that the tyres have passed several tests and provide quality, comfort, performance, and efficiency. This makes them an excellent match for the ID.3. Both the EcoContact 6 summer tyre and the WinterContact TS 850 P winter specialized have been modified to meet the ID.3.
